The significant economic and income differences among Hungary's regions that had evolved during many decades or even centuries did not fundamentally changed in the 2000s. The factors determining the income generating capacity at the regional level including labour demand and supply (competencies defining this, qualifications), and capital are changing slowly, whereas natural conditions do not change at all. With the global financial and economic crisis the reduction of regional differences is becoming more difficult and require more time than assumed earlier.

GKI Economic Research Co. made research on Hungary's rural socio-economic situation in general and the evaluation of LEADER tenders and communities.
During the empirical research we contacted more than thousand local governments and 1900 companies by phone, and we made interviews with more than 25 other relevant organizations.
