Based on the NAV 2022 data, 329,000 individuals declared capital income (e.g. from dividends, exchange rate gains, long-term investments). This is nearly 65,000 people (25%) more than a year earlier. Net capital income also increased from HUF 1,900 billion in 2021 to HUF 2,400 billion (almost a 23% increase), so that a person with capital income received a national average of HUF 7.6 million net in 2022. This also means that net capital gains grew faster than inflation (+14.5%).

Almost half of the capital gains were generated in Budapest (35%) and Pest County (17%). Nógrád county was the only one with a share below 1% (0.7%). The counties of Bács-Kiskun, Hajdú-Bihar, Győr-Moson-Sopron and Fejér accounted for a large proportion of the total capital income (together 18%). On the other hand, this share was low (below 2%) in the counties of Vas, Tolna, Heves and Békés.

At the settlement level, the largest part of capitalists lived in Budapest and in cities with county rights (48%). Nearly a third (30%) lived in cities, and less than a quarter (21%) lived in villages. At the same time, more than half (57%) of the capital income was given by Budapest and the cities with county rights.

By settlement type, the income per one capitalist was the highest in Budapest (HUF 10 million). This is followed by towns and cities with county rights (6.6 and 6.2 million HUF, respectively). The lowest value was among the municipalities (HUF 5.7 million).

Concerning the capital income per inhabitant, Felcsút ranked first again after 2021 (HUF 14.1 million/inhabitant), which is almost the same as the result of the previous year. In second place was Vaskeresztes in Vas county (HUF 11.4 million/inhabitant), and Somogycsicsó in Somogy county in third place (HUF 8.8 million/inhabitant). In these settlements, one of the big capitalists presumably has a permanent address that make these ratios high. In the case of the capital, not surprisingly (as in 2021), the XII., II. and V districts performed the best (1.9, 1.7 and 1.2 million HUF/inhabitant).
